A CPM-5 can replace a CPM-3 running software version 3.xx in your existing SNV-12 Voter.
Installing a CPM-5 in place of a CPM-3
This process does not require a full new installation. However, several of the CPM and SVM steps are required so that the new CPM can know about the system it is managing. Assuming the rest of your system (e.g., terminal connections) remain unchanged, the steps to swap out a CPM include the following:
- With power OFF, remove the CPM you are replacing and install the new CPM.
- You may leave SVMs connected to the network if they were already installed. (I.e., you do not need to unplug their Ethernet connections.)
- Look in the SNV-12 Voter Manual. Find the sub-section called CPM Network Configuration in the Field Setup Guide (section 4) of it. Follow the instructions in that and all subsequent sections through the section called Verify Before Putting into Service. Very broadly speaking, you will:
- Configure the voter as a Single chassis.
- SVMs that were already set up and installed may remain so, including network connection.
- Boot the system and Adopt Currently Installed Modules.
- Ensure no errors.
- Name sites, etc.
- Manually adjust delay for each SVM-2 site.
- Adjust the operating parameters of the system.
- If the chassis is part of an expanded system, set Master or Expansion.
- If the chassis is a Master chassis, go to System Module Config and Adopt Currently Installed Modules again to accept overall configuration.
What about Expanded Systems?
The CPM-5 supports multi-chassis expanded systems, but all CPMs in the system must be of the same type. In other words, if a CPM-5 is installed in the Master chassis, CPM-5s must be installed in each Expansion chassis as well. If a CPM-3 is in the Master chassis, CPM-3s must be in the Expansions.
