Version - 4.7.2 (Updating from 4.X) OR (Updating from 3.1.X)
IMPORTANT - The following instructions are a bit involved, as the process to upgrade the ACU-Z1 from v3.X to v4.X firmware is very complex. We did our best to keep most of that behind-the-scenes so the process will play out very smoothly for you as you perform this update, but there are important things to keep in mind/be aware of, so please read the following before proceeding with the update. Thanks!
Preparation Instructions
- Browse to the ACU-Z1 and log in.
- Note the firmware version in the lower right corner.
- If the version is below version 4.7.0 (e.g., v3.1.6), follow the version 3 to version 4 migration instructions (below).
- If you are at version 4.7.0 or higher, follow the standard update instructions (also below).
Version 3 to Version 4 Migration
Before You Begin
- Version 4 software is a substantial upgrade from version 3 and requires additional time to update the firmware. Please allow for at least 15 minutes to perform this update.
- JPS strongly recommends being physically present with the ACU-Z1 for this migration update. Being able to observe the LEDs and having the option to pull/re-insert cards or physically power cycle the ACU-Z1 is helpful.
- Download the "version 3 to version 4" migration firmware package, found above (link for "Updating from 3.1.X"). You do not extract the contents of this file, please load it with the .tgz extension.
- Although version 4 improves the ACU-Z1's functionality in significant ways and is recommended for all systems, note that you cannot go back to version 3 after updating to version 4.
Perform the Migration Update
- Log into the ACU-Z1 if you have not done so already.
- Verify the VIM-Z1/PSTN-Z1 cards have their network cables connected and plugged into the same network switch as the CPM-Z1. If cards were not plugged in previously, wait for them to boot fully before continuing.
- Click the three lines on the top right of the page to open the right-hand-side menu and click the "Upload New Firmware" button.
- Choose the version 3 to version 4 migration file downloaded above and click "Update".
Reminder: As noted above, this update is substantial and will take many minutes to complete. Do not power off the ACU-Z1 during this time.
- Observe the LEDs on the CPM-Z1 and listen to the handset/speaker (if plugged in and on).
- After a few minutes, the CPM-Z1 LEDs will flash, you will hear a startup tone sequence, and the "Master" LED will come on solid. The interface cards (VIM-Z1 and PSTN-Z1 cards) will still be in process of updating.
- If desired, you may now manually refresh the browser page (it will not update on its own). It may be helpful to ask the browser to perform a "full reload" of the page to ensure you are seeing the latest user interface. (Pressing "Ctrl + Shift + R" together on most web browsers will do this.)
- Login to the ACU-Z1, if desired.
- Wait for the interface cards to complete their update and obtain the new configuration settings. The Fault LED on the front of each of the cards will eventually go out and the card's resources will appear as "online" in the browser. This will take several minutes, and the cards may disconnect/reconnect/restart several times during this process. This is normal - version 4 is a substantial upgrade and the cards must perform additional configuration steps.
- After waiting several minutes (allow at least 5 minutes), if any of the cards are still not connected and/or their Fault LEDs remain on you will need to take action. Please attempt one or more of the following:
-
-
- Note that this "inability to update" problem is usually a problem with the firmware on the cards and will be corrected after a successful migration to version 4. Your ACU-Z1 and interface cards are not likely to be defective and will not need to be repaired or replaced.
- Verify the cards have their network cables connected and plugged into the same network switch as the CPM-Z1. If not, this is likely the problem. If they are, attempt one of the other fixes.
- Pull out the offending cards, plug them back in, then wait for the update to occur. Note: You are not unplugging the network cable, you are pulling the card a couple inches out of the ACU-Z1 chassis and pushing it back in. (You do not have to fully remove the card - just pull it out enough so it is not connected to the chassis backplane anymore.)
- If you do not want to remove individual cards this way, you may instead power cycle the ACU-Z1 using the power switch on the PSM-Z1 on the front of the chassis (turn it off, wait 5 seconds, turn it back on). The entire system will restart instead of just the problematic cards.
- Contact JPS support for additional assistance.
-
- When the interface cards are fully updated, the migration to version 4 is complete. Future version 4 (or higher) updates will be faster and will be able to use the Standard Update process.
Standard Update
If your ACU-Z1 is already at version 4.7.0 or higher, you may use this standard update process. The update will take a few minutes. Although generally a good idea in case something unusual happens, you do not need to be physically present with the ACU-Z1 to perform a standard update.
- Download the standard version 4 software update found above (link for "Updating from 4.X").
- Log into the ACU-Z1 if needed.
- Open the "Administration" menu and click the "Software Update" button.
- Choose the ".jps" file downloaded above and click "Upload". Once the update is verified, you will be prompted to "Install Now" or "Install Later". Click "Install Now".
- Wait for the update to complete. The CPM-Z1 update will take approximately one minute. After that has completed, the CPM-Z1 will update all of the cards automatically (if configured to do so). This will take up to a couple minutes depending on the number of cards in the ACU-Z1 chassis.
- If desired, after the CPM-Z1 has updated, log back into the user interface and go to "Card Management" (in the "Settings" menu). You may observe the interface card update process from there.
- The software update is now complete.
Additional Information
- All v3 and earlier firmware comes as a .tgz file, as well as the initial v4 firmware migration file. Future v4 updates (updating from 4.7.0 and beyond) will be .jps files.
- There are many changes included with the update to the v4 firmware, please see the <updated documentation>.
- Release notes are available <here>.
